Installation

In case of this Gateway there are 3 situations by the installation:

  1. If the car radio has a Quadlock, or BMW 17 pin, or mini ISO connector
  2. If the car radio has a separate CD changer connector (for example Mazda, Suzuki)
  3. In case of Toyota
  4. Bentley Continental + VW Phaeton

1. If the car radio has a Quadlock, or BMW 17 pin, or mini ISO connector:

  • First you need to pull out the head unit (radio/navigation) from the dash of the car:

  • Then at the back of the radio head unit you unplug the Quadlock, BMW 17 pin or mini ISO connector that includes the smaller CD changer connector:

  • You remove the car's original small CD changer plug, and you connect the Gateway's own CD changer plug instead into the big Quadlock / BMW 17 pin / mini ISO connector. If the car doesn't have a 6CD changer plugged in there, that is not a problem, you just connect the Gateway's car side cable to the empty CD changer plug/slot/place. Finally you plug in the whole Quadlock / BMW 17 pin / mini ISO back to the radio head unit. (Click on the below picture and open it in new tab or download it to see the whole picture:)

  • The 12 pin molex plug on the Gateway car side cable needs to be plugged into the Gateway unit of course.
  • You can place the microphone at the center rear view mirror, or behind the driving wheel. The cable of the microphone can be hided behind the roof carpet and the A-pillar. (The microphone has some direction sensitivity, so you can face it towards the head of the driver.)
  • Now that you installed the Gateway, you can test if everything works properly. If everything is OK you can place the hardware of the Gateway into the glove box or behind the radio head unit and finally you can reassembly all the elements of the car back together.

2. If the car radio has a separate CD changer connector (for example Mazda, Suzuki):

  • First you need to pull out the head unit (radio/navigation) of the car:

  • Then at the back of the radio head unit you unplug the car's original CD changer cable. Or if the car doesn't have a 6CD changer in there, you simply locate the CD changer connector:

  • Finally you plug the Gateway's car side cable into the CD changer connector of the radio head unit:

  • The 12 pin molex plug on the Gateway car side cable needs to be plugged into the Gateway unit of course.

3. In case of Toyota/Lexus:

  • The installation needs to be done other way. For that please read section R1 for the proper installation instructions.

3. In case of Bentley Continental and VW Phateon:
